Effects of a drama play training program on adaptive behaviors and sensory expression of students with mental retardation

Abstract
The purposes of this study were: (a) to investigate the effects of a drama play training program on adaptive behaviors of high school students with mental retardation in group drama educational settings and (b) to investigate the effects of a drama play training program on sensory expressions of high school students with mental retardation in group drama educational settings. The subjects were 10 high school students(5 students with mild mental retardation and 5 students with moderate mental retardation; 5 male students and 5 female students) enrolled in a special school for mental retardation. The drama play training program was composed 28 sessions conducted for 7 weeks. The research findings were that the drama play training program had a statistically significant effect on improving adaptive behaviors and sensory expression of students with mental retardation in group drama play educational settings, and that gender and the degree of mental retardation had not statistically significant relation to the effects of the program.
